The availability zone is: us-east-1c.
Is Amazon moving away from Opteron-based servers? I hope so. Xeon machines so far provide better performance, so I guess they decided to expand their farm with those. Great move!
I could not find any confirmation or other reports on the subject, so please confirm!

No, processors are real. But apparently capped in some configs.
Never mind. I guess we are staying in SoftLayer — "talking to metal" is much more effective for us. Virtualization still introduces high penalty for DBs.
